Motorcycle Repair: 83 FLHS Shovel Starting, starter solenoid, torque starter

Question
QUESTION: First start of the season - won't start - ran fine last season. New high torque starter, new starter relay, new starter solenoid, new cables, battery good. Starter turns good out of bike and when jumped. When solenoid engages flywheel, it barely turns and wires and terminals get hot. I've got the intermediate starter gears out (gears and shaft between starter and primary cover) - bearings and pinion gear seem to be acceptable. After removing primary cover, I manually turn the engine with plugs out and seem to get strong compression. I'm wondering if the engine is somewhat siezed.  Should there be much resistance to turning with the plugs out? I'm getting frustrated. Please help. Thank you to the max!
ANSWER: Slow turning is a sign that you either have a bad ground or loss of voltage going to the starter. I would have the battery tested, even though its new. SOmetime you can get a bad battery. Check your battery connections to make sure they are tight.
Good luck and happy riding

Answer
With the plugs out there should be hardly any resistance when turning over the motor, due to the fact you are not creating compression. remove your pushrods and then turn it over. If have any resistance then you probably have an internal problem and will have to tearthe motor down.
