QUESTION: which wire is the tach signal wire on a 2005 sportster custom and where is the wire
ANSWER: The tach wires should be orange, black and pink. the pink should be the signal wire. Look inside the headlight or around the speedo area. They hide them pretty good from the factory.

QUESTION: I'm installing a mini tach on my 2005 sportster custom having ahard time finding tach signal wire on the duetch connecter it say to put in slot seven but there is a wire in there already
ANSWER: Is the wire pink?

hate to do this, but I am going to refer you to your harley dealership. Give them a call for advise. My book says that the signal wire should be pink. I dont want to tell you somthing wrong and you short out things.
