Motorcycle Repair: 2004 sportster engine light, scanalyzer, harley dealer

I saw an earlier question regarding the engine light coming on now and then for a short period of time and the answere was a possible pinched wire. My bike does the same thing,I bought the bike with S/E intake,stage one kit and bike sounds and runs great.My engine light comes on first when I turn the ignition to run with the bike off ,than goes out after I start it, than once or twice during a good ride. Can you offer me any advice or should I take it to a costly stealership? Thank You, Jim

If your engine light comes on after starting and stays on only for 8 seconds you have a troubleshooting code in the history but no present problem.  You have to put the bike on a scanalyzer and get the codes checked and cleared.  The dealer shouldn't charge that much to do it.  Check with other shops to see if they have a Kent-Moore (Harley) Scanalyzer.  My shop has one and we are not an "Authorized" Harley dealer.
