Motorcycle Repair: pan 1958, timing hole, shovelheads

Question
after complete rebuild, new rods, pistons bearings, ect, different flywheels, 1967 shovelheads, new tuneup, same carb as before, rebuilt, anyway, bike will start after much kicking, before it is warm enough to adjust carb, pipes get red hot. i have retimed it many times, everyone says its timing, i checked gear timing, my thought is the flywheels timing is different on shovels than pans? these have one single mark and one double, my old ones have only one, it does have a mild cam, using linkert m74b, points,i am very lost, i did have a shop set heads and manifold and pressure test it, no leaks. any info would be greatly helpfull

Answer
Should be the same on both. Your timing mark should be off center in the hole when you set the timing on the points. It should be off center to the right of the timing hole.
Check your intake for a leak also. that will make the bike run lean and get the pipes hot.
Good luck and happy riding
