Motorcycle Repair: Brakes locking up, yamaha xs, rear brakes

so i have a 1980 yamaha XS 1100 midnight special and the front and rear
brakes keep locking up. Do you know of a way to fix this?

A:  Yes, I know several procedures for servicing brake system problems.

Can you be more specific on what's happening? Are the wheels actually locking up, or are the calipers just dragging the rotors? Do the calipers release the rotors any on their own? Have the brakes been repaired or serviced in any way recently? Has the XS been parked for any periods of time? Any details or history you provide is helpful.

Do you have the service manual?

Answer the above questions and we'll go from there.
