Motorcycle Repair: Draining fuel, fuel line, drain plug

Question
Mike - I have a 1999 Custom Sportster 883 that has been put up for winter. Where is the drain plug for the fuel tank and how do I drain the carburetor? I plan on selling after I get it back running. Last year, I had a problem getting it started, especially after it has warmed up. I could let it cool down for 1-2 hours, and it would start right up. H-D here in Greenville, SC says nothing is wrong with it, but when I get it home, it won't start again. Had it for 4 yrs. w/no problems. Any suggestions?

Answer
There is no drain plug. Disconnect the fuel line from the carb and drain it into a pan. If the bike has been sitting for a long period I would remove the bowl on the carb to get the fuel out and to also check to make sure there is no dirt in it.
On the starting problem. Do you have the cover on the fuel line? If you dont it might be vapor locking.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
