Motorcycle Repair: startup, vacuum line, intake leak

Question
My bike is a 1986 Honda 700 Shadow. On a cold startup, the rear cylinder is the only one that runs. There is spark to the front cylinder, but it takes about 30 seconds before it fires. Once it warms up some, both cylinders run fine. What do you think?  Tom

Answer
Don't know for sure, but you may have an intake leak on the front that's sucking air or a vacuum line leak under the tank.  When the bike is running spray a fine mist of water around the front intake and see if the rpm changes.  Or you may have a bad or sticky valve or rings on the front cylinder.  Do a compression check on both cyl's and see if they are close.
