Motorcycle Repair: 84 FLT, jackshaft, ground wires

Question
My 1984 FLT wont start after I reassembled it after painting the bike, I checked that by battery is charged and cables are tight all the ground wires are on good. The bosh relay shows power in and out when the switch is pressed and you can hear the power going to it with a "click" when the button is pressed. But the starter is not engaging. What the heck did I do?

Answer
I don't know what you did but make sure that your starter and solenoid housings are still well grounded to the cable and the primary housing.  If they're painted you need a good ground to the cables.  Usually a star lock washer is used on the cables that cuts through paint to get to metal when the the nuts or studs are tightened.  Some times you have to remove paint in a small circle where mounting bolts and cables attach.  Did you put the starter jackshaft on correctly?
