Motorcycle Repair: FLHRC Exhaust, screaming eagle pipes, hd shop

Question
Mike,
I had a 2003 FLHRC with the Stage I and Screaming Eagle pipes that sounded incredible after about 1000 miles. I recently bought a 2007 FLHRC with the same setup. I was told I was getting the old style Screaming Eagle pipes but they just don't seem the same. The bike has 1500 miles on it now and I am not hearing any change in the exhaust note like I did with my '03. I have had the race tuning done hoping that might help but the rumble I'm looking for just isn't there. I have considered a new set of aftermarket slip ons but have two problems with what I have found A) I have fish tail endcaps which I really like. None of the aftermarket mufflers that friends have recommended or ones I have researched online will allow me to keep my fishtails and B) I hate to spend the extra cash on a new set of mufflers/pipes and still not get the sound I'm looking for. The HD shop in my area has told me I have done everything possible to hop up the performance and is more interested in selling t-shirts than bikes so they are out of the question. Do you think I should keep my current pipes and hope the sound will eventually change or should I cough up several hundred more dollars for an aftermarket exhaust? If I did go with the aftermarket exhaust, do I need to plan on having everything retuned? My new bad *ss Harley sounds more like a gold wing...I need some help! Thanks.

Answer
If youa re looking for a certain sound then it sounds like you are going to have to make a change. Ater the miles you have put on the bike and no change then it sounds like your stuck.
If it were me I would check other harleys with aftermarket pipes for the sound you are looking for. that way you dont spend money for an exhaust you havent heard yet.
You probably wont have to retune if you are going with simular pipes.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
