Motorcycle Repair: power loss on 1978 CB750f, electrical diagnosis, cb750f

Question
I have a 1978 CB750f supersport, and was riding home after a full day of riding, and as I shifted into second gear the bike lost power. I've checked the fuses and the battery is new, but
I can't get any power, nothing comes on anymore. The bike is in great condition with 8900 miles on it, and I am the second  owner. What can I do

Answer
Hi Matthew,

I suspect an electrical short is the problem. It may be a direct short (hot to ground) or an open short (broken conductor). An open may simply be a loose or disconnected electrical connector or terminal such as a loose battery lead.

Electrical diagnosis can be frustrating. You'll have to inspect and test every wire, connector and component until you locate the source of the problem.

Get a copy of the service manual and learn about troubleshooting the various systems. The manual has wiring diagram.

I return tech information files by email. There was no email address with your question as requested and explained in my instructions.
