Motorcycle Repair: ct70 gaskets and valves, cross country trip, gasket kits

Question
I heard that you should only use honda gaskets but they want a bunch of money and even ebay. Sorry but I can't spend a hundred on gaskets. Why is honda so great? Is it quality? What brand is the next best thing? Is aftermarket valves ok? As always thankes for the great advice.

Answer
Shirley, Honda take great pains to insure that their parts are DA BEST! Yes, they are expensive, with the cost of living, etc. in Japan, plus shipping, plus a dealer's profit to get it to your door, a lot of effort goes into getting you what you need. Mr Honda's first interest was always that the customer be happy with a product that is safe and reliable. He established R&D centers to research many avenues of how to make his products be the highest in quality, still at an affordable price.

I am aware that there are a lot of Chinese parts out there, made to close specifications to Honda's, but no doubt the engineering and quality of materials is not the same.
I would at least see if you can buy from a Japanese aftermarket source, if possible. Some of the older leftover gasket kits are probably to be avoided, but there seems to be some newer parts from Japan which should be close to equivalent to OEM Honda parts.

That said.... you are working on a CT70, not a MotoGP race bike, so unless you plan a cross country trip on your CT70, most parts will be sufficient to your needs.
