Motorcycle Repair: exhaust backfiring, thunderheader pipes, exhaust backfiring

Question
i tried the removed air filter and tried carb cleaner on manifold idle did not change. should i have kept air filter on? i did notice that the 2 rubber breather lines were cracked & useless. don't know if this makes a difference or not.
removed spark plugs(6R12), and they are a "LITTLE" black & sooty looking just around the rim, but going by the picture in the repair guide, they look almost perfect.

-----Question-----
i am going to install V&H true duels & thunderheaders on my 2003 road king.
i had previously had my carb rejetted & ran it w/wild pigs(stock exhaust on jugs). this is when i first experienced the "backfiring" when letting off of the throttle.
this doesn't happen w/ stock pipes. even with jetted carb.
the guy who jetted my carb said it jetted as much as it could be.
i was worried about the "backfiring" before i changed everything, so i put the thunderheader pipes on & still have the same backfiring issue.
i also plan on installing a mikuni 42.
any solutions?

Check your intake manifold for leaks. Start the bike and let it warm up. Spray a little carb cleaner around the intake. If the RPMs go up then you have a leak. Also, pull your spark plugs and let me know what color they are.

Answer
Sounds like your problem is not enough back pressure in the exhaust system. When you let off the throttle you get a backfiring. Changing the carb wont help. It will still do it.
What you probably need ot do is add somthing like torque cones, which will put some back pressure on the exhaust.
Good luck and happy riding
