Motorcycle Repair: 1970 ct70, ct70, riding habits

Question
Is it possible to tune a bike that you are just riding in the yard? My plug is sooty. If you don't run it in the higher speeds will the carbon not burn off? Want the plugs just foul? Thanks

Answer
Hi Shirley,

Q:  "...Is it possible to tune a bike that you are just riding in the yard?"

A:  Yes. It's possible that the carb is out of adjustment and causing the problem. The carburetor air-fuel mixtures can be corrected to improve performace.

Q:  "...My plug is sooty. If you don't run it in the higher speeds will the carbon not burn off?"

A:  Lugging the engine out of the power band is prone to load up the plugs (carbon foul).

Q:  "...Want the plugs just foul?"

A:  Right. The plugs will likely foul. Plugs can be cleaned or replaced to temporarily restore performance, but the problem will reoccur if riding habits remains unchanged.
