Motorcycle Repair: XR100 clutch adjustment & repair, clutch adjustment, clutch cable

Question
I have an 1999 XR 100 and I cant get the clutch to engage. I have taken the clutch cable off and tried to engage it manually, it does have some resistance but don't seem like enough. It will spring back to its normal position, but I don't think it is enough when the cable is hooked up to return the clutch to it's regular position. I have adjusted an adjustment screw on the side of the case right above the kick start to see if that would help, but it didn't do anything. I dont know if I should pull the cover on the case to see if something has come lose inside. It's been a long time since I've been inside one of these so I'm a little hesitant.

Answer
I would not attempt to ride the bike in this condition. Could be a number of things. Springs could be shot or broken or worse. You'll need to open it up. Get yourself a manual and the job won't be half as bad and you'll have all specs and be able to check it all out.
