Motorcycle Repair: yamaha xj600s 1994(failing clutch), thrust bearing, engine longevity

Question

-------------------------------------------
Hi Mark,
just to let you know incase this helps someone else with regards to failing clutch.Having gained more information,it seems because I do very few miles aday,  condensation forms in the engine which inturn causes the oil to emulsify ,this white muck then makes the clutch plates and thrust bearing fail alot quicker. To combat this you can buy a breather kit from Yamaha £25 which should reduce the condensation as well as letting the bike tick over for about ten mins letting the engine get hot.You will soon know if this is working because the white muck will disappear from the oil level sight glass.Bottom line is make sure you let the engine get nice and warm.Hope this helps someone.
Regards
Nick.

Answer
Thanks for your update reply, Nick.

I'll share this intel with others in need.

For the good of the order... for engine longevity, always allow the engine to reach operating temperatures before putting a load on the engine.

Pistons are either forged or cast in an oblong shape. They are designed to expand/grow round like for aiding the rings in sealing combustion pressures.

Pre-ride warm up prevents glazing spark plugs as well. Warm engine while performing the pre-ride safety inspection.
