Motorcycle Repair: confused about sprockets, vibs, opion

Question
hi mike. i have a 1979 fxs, ibought it after sitting in a barn for 2 yrs with broke final dirve chain & sprockets worn out. a friend told me to change the sprockets from 23 on trany & 52 on rear wheel to 22 on trany & 48 on rear wheel.he said it would give me more top end & take out alot of the vib the old shovels have at hwy speeds. never rode the bike before , now at 2000 rpm runnin aprox 60 mph. at 3000 rpm runnin aprox 75 to 80. speedo jumps at these speeds lol. vibs are ok at 60 to 70 after you can feel them start to come back but not bad. i would like your opion on this.do i need to go back to the stock sprockets?

Answer
Its going to depend on what type of riding you do. If you do alot of hiway riding I would leave it alone. It keeps your RPMS down. If you do alot of in city riding then you can change. If youa re happy with the way the bike pulls away from a light in the city, then leave it the way it is.
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
