Motorcycle Repair: 1985 honda vf500f, valve timing, fuel tank

Question
I just got this bike it was really hard to start when i got it. The battery will go dead trying to start it but when its warm it will start but it takes a couple trys. What do you think i should look into

Answer
Hi Justin.

Start with the carbs.  They probably need a proper cleaning and synchronization.  Then check the valve timing and gap.  Also check the air filter and replace it if it is dirty.

If the carbs are dirty, then the fuel tank may need to be resealed to prevent recontamination of the fuel system.

Start with that and see what you get.

God luck and ride safe.
