Motorcycle Repair: XV535 Virago fuse blowing, finding charts, charging system

My 1989 Xv535 keeps blowing the headlight fuse after having the lights on for around 10-15 minutes (bike being ridden). The bike also runs rough at higher revs and often backfires when coming off the throttle fast. Could these be related and if so what do you think could cause it? Many thanks Gary.

Hi Gary,

I suspect the charging system is defective. Likely the regulator.

Perform an output check of the alternator. Isolate and check charging system components. Repair or replace accordingly.

I recommend that you get a copy of the service manual and learn about troubleshooting and electrical testing. The manual will pay for itself with the first work you perform.
