Motorcycle Repair: Yamaha Raptor Wont start please help, diamond valves, starter clutch

Question
Ok here it is,

Blew a piston, so i put a 102mm piston and black diamond valves and a new starter clutch. I then rode it a few rides and my clutch basket exploded, so  i then had the enginge case split , cleaned out, new water pump new clutch basket and plates, stage 1 webcam, new seal kit.

I put my engine bakc in after getting it back and tried to start it, nothing happened so i bought a new battery, now it makes a clicking noise at the starte selinoid, so i was able to pop start it after pulling it behind my truck. so i bought a new selinoid, starter and rewired the terminals. I tried starting and no go, i even tried jump starting it with my truck.

When i go to start it turns it over once, in a slow manor but almost normal. and no more then that it only turns over once.

I have spark, its crisp and consistant. I have a new spark plug also.

I tried even spraying starting fluid in the sprak plug hole and the intake boots. Still no go, doesnt even back fire or make any noise but a little sizzle.

I also put my buddies coil in to see if that worked and no go

Any ideas what could be wrong, what to do????

please contact me if you have any ideas...

Answer
Hi Michael,

I would need to perform tests to answer a few questions of my own before offering an opinion on this matter. With so many modifications and so much work done, providing an accurate diagnosis without inspection is no more than guessing.

I recommend that you have a local tech check this problem for you.

In fact, I would start my investigation with the work the shop performed. The shop wasn't able to check their work without having the engine in frame. It's possible that the tech made a mistake, respectfully.

The clicking noise during starting is caused by one or more of the following:

Loose battery cable
Weak or defective battery
Worn starter motor brushes
Defective starter motor clutch
Burned or corroded starter button contacts
Burned or defective starter solenoid contacts
Loose or corroded circuit electrical connector

The engine rotating only once is a major concern. Does the engine rotate freely by tool (as if rotating crankshaft to align timing marks for service)?

Check valve clearances and verify they're within service limits. Remember, you're checking someone else's work while investigating  problem.

Have you tested cylinder compression? If so, what were the readings? If not, do it to check the sealing properties of the combustion chamber.

If necessary, perform a leak-down test.

Respectfully,
Mark Shively
