Motorcycle Repair: motorcycle wont start!!!!, starter solenoid, motor brushes

Question
I own a 95 kawa 250. a month ago i was riding at night when the front light started to flicker, so stopped riding for  about a week. when i later tried to start the bike it wouldn't start, so i kept trying, and it started to sound like the battery was dying. when i tried again it started making a rapid clicking noise . [FYI] the headlamp and battery are new.

Answer
Hi Chris,

I cannot diagnose sounds without being there, but I suspect the problem is minor.

If I understand the description correctly, if the clicking happened while trying to start the engine, the likely cause is a weak or defective battery.

Other common causes are: loose battery cable connections, worn starter motor brushes, worn starter button switch contacts and worn starter solenoid contacts.

Even new batteries can be weak or defective, especially if they are economy brand and/or not properly serviced before initial use.

The cause of the headlight flickering could be a defective bulb, loose electrical connection in the circuit, defective charging system, loose battery cable, etc...
