Motorcycle Repair: rod bearing replacement, gsxr 750, rod bearings

Question
I noticed a rod knock on my 94 Gsxr 750. Its the #2 cyl on the shifter side not sure the exact cyl number. Anyway I'm thinking of replacing the rod bearings, (all of them) but not sure what I'll need. I'm a deisel mechanic for a living so I have the skill and the tools, but not sure of what all i will need. I know I will have to split cases but is there a gasket for that? I know i need the rod bearings and possibly the crank bearings. what else will I need if anything. my old lady wants me to sell it but I cant. so I need an Idea of what it will cost me so I can talk her down and starting getting the money set aside. The dealer wont help unless I have it done there. any help or recommendations you can give will be more than greatly appreciated. Thanx for any help you can give me.

Answer
Hi Sharrod.

Start by getting the factory repair manual.  As a mechanic, you already have the required skillsets to do the work, but the repair manual will tell you exactly what you are looking at for disassembly, what parts need to be replaced, what the specs are for everything on the bike, what tools are required, etc.

Most factory repair manuals run around $50.00 (U.S.), but as you well know, the information will be worth the book's weight in gold.

Good luck and ride safe.
