Motorcycle Repair: 1989 fxrs anti dive, hydraulic fork, handle bars

Hello Mike!
I have an 89 fxrs with the air res. anti dive forks. I want to change the handle bars. Can the anti dive be disconnected and have the fork still work properly? It is a hydraulic fork correct? I just picked it up and have no clue about this system. Thanks

Yes they are still hydraulic forks. the air adds some pressure on them and keeps them from bottoming out if you hit a hard bump. you can elimate the air system if you wish, but you will lose handeling on the front end. It will be alot softer.
