Motorcycle Repair: 1982 yamaha 650 seca suddenly wont go past 2nd gear, 1982 yamaha 650, repair person

i was riding this morning and was fine. later i got on and i cant get it to shift into 2nd. it goes from 1st to neutral no problem. do you know whats wrong or how to fix it? its all i got and im stuck without it.

Hi Ryan.
 I see one of 2 reasonable possibilities, because of the age of the bike, it is possible that you have a bent/broken shift shaft or a broken shifter fork.  Those are both internal engine issues that I would relegate to a mechanic to go into to check.  This is not something that the casual repair person can easily fix.
