Motorcycle Repair: exhaust temperature, yamaha virago, car parts stores

Question
i have a 1988 yamaha virago xv1100.i'am wanting to get my pipes powder coated, but not sure if itwill hold up on the pipes.the salesman told me that the coating is good for 1200 degrees at a constant 8 hours, but i'm not sure what the temperature is coming out of the exhaust pipes.can you help me on this question.thanks

Answer
Hi Scott,

I haven't checked the exhaust gas temperatures on a Virago in many years.

I recommend having a local auto mechanic or AutoZone (car parts stores) staff point a digital temp gauge on your pipes. I doubt that they'd even charge you.

I think powder coating will work nicely.
