Motorcycle Repair: 84 honda vt700c fuel pump, electric fuel pump, sediment bowl

Question
hi, i have a 1984 honda vt700c  the problem is it ran fine. the next time i went to start it it wouldn't start. so i checked the spark fine. it had the sediment bowl leaking on the left side so i took it apart and put new gaskets in them. the carbs were clean. i left the fuel lines loose from the carbs and the only time it spurted gas was when i first turned on the key one spurt then nothing. if im correct the fuel pump should work like any other electric fuel pump, it should pump gas till it builds up pressure and then stop right? it works once and then you here nothing. it should pump gas into the holding can i had or if i put my fingers over the hoses it should build up pressure and quit pumping right if working properly? let me know

Answer
your correct thats how its works only pumps as it need fuel not a continous pumping .youi could take a large type like a turkey injector ,serious an put fuel in it connect to a carb push syringe as you try to crank if it does then you do have a bad fuel pump you need a certain amount of pressure from the pump try this ok it will give us some insight ok hang in there i will get you going i have owned and operated my own shop for years now it just take a a little teoubleshooting ok.
