Motorcycle Repair: 2000 yamaha r1, jumper cables, battery cables

Question
I just recently replaced the battery in it, and it would start fine in the beginning and shortly after, the lights and the instrument panel will go blank, then the bike will just shut off. When i try to start it again, it will not turn over at all, i would have to jump the battery with my car and then it would start, but then shut off again. i thought that it might be the new battery, but the dealership i got it from said that it was fully charged and they think that it is another problem. Please e-mail me at Jauer3692@comcast.net with some info on this problem.

Thanks

Answer
Hi James,

Sorry for the delay in replying to your question. I've been busy working OT lately.

I suspect the battery cables are loose. The symptoms are indicative of such. The jumper cables may make the battery lead connections fit tightly again to start the engine.

Check for other loose or corroded electrical connectors.

If the problem persists, advise. We'll go from there. I'll send a couple of tech files to your email. You'll get my email addy and email me directly for our convenience.

Respectfully,
