Motorcycle Repair: honda z50r, honda z50r, poor conductivity

Question
thanks for the last help mark. greatly appreciated. the problem im having with my sons bike is " its getting to much spark. it wont start with the plug lead on but if u pull the lead off and hold it about an inch away from the plug it will fire and run , to put the lead back on and it dies. once its warmed up with the lead off i can then put the lead back on. would u have any ideas what the problem is. could it be coil?

Answer
Hi Chris,

The coil is doing it's job. I suspect the plug cap and/or plug wire are defective.

Have you tried a new or different spark plug? May be the source, too. Cracked insulator or other poor conductivity issue.
