Motorcycle Repair: XL 600 NO NO SPARK, honda xl600, xl 600

Question
Hi,my 1992 Honda XL600 has no spark whilst turning engine over.I have tested the coil by earthing one side and scraping other terminal on battery but it sparks.I have tested the kill switch/ignition circuit and that is not to earth when turning over.I have 50volts a.c. to the c.d.i. from inside the engine case(I presume from the charge coil) I have 9v d.c.pulsing at the c.d.i.(presumably from the pulse generator) I have a good earth on my coil and other component's.I THINK THAT THE C.D.I. MAY BE FAULTY. DO YOU AGREE? THANK'S MIKE..

Answer
Hi Mike,

Check continuity through the entire ignition system conductors.

Check electrical connectors for evidence of loose or corroded connections. Applying dielectric grease to connectors helps prevent corrosion and water shorting.

Test the CDI with a known good working unit. The factory does not provide detailed specs on the CDI's.
