Motorcycle Repair: Honda VTR1000, honda vtr1000, revs

I have a 97 VTR1000 and in the past few days have noticed that I have lost power.  This is most noticeable between 1000-2000rpm when pulling away in first gear as I am having to slip the clutch more than usual or increase the revs.  The engine seems more lumpy than normal.  The engine is better at higher revs.  What should I check first? Carbs?

thr first and cheapest thing i would do is pour a bottle of injecttor cleaner into the tank even if its not fuel injected it will clean carbs great then run it for a couple of hour i'll bet you notice a difference if you need more help im here ok.
