Motorcycle Repair: Starter, bike cranks, info e mail

Question
Hello Mitch,
I just changed the starter in my 86 virago 1100.  I had to pull the left side cover off to remove the "E" ring to get the starter out.  I beleive I got the bike together right but I get nothing at all when I try to start the bike...It's as if I have no power to the starter. Thank you for your help

Answer
hello,

and thank you for choosing me to answer yur question it sounds to me you have a wire thats loose going to the starter . go to the starter solenoid with the key on take a screwdriver and touch both big screws together if the bike cranks then you have either shorted the relay or the switch. but i can guarantee you if you touch the 2 post on the solenoid it should turn over and crank if it doesnt then you have a bad solenoid you may have shorted it out, if it does then yur starter relay is bad. ok. P.S please leave feed-back on my answer ,you can also nominate if you chooe so.If you feel i gave good advise.ok. hang in there its not major o.k. im here all night at my cycle shop working if u need more info e-mail again .ok.
