Motorcycle Repair: 1983 Kawasaki Carburetors, kawasaki kz550, cylinder problem

Question
I'm asking you this question because Mark Shively doesn't have a "ask question" link.  I've got an '83 Kawasaki KZ550. The first cylinder wasn't firing, so i began by pulling the carburetors off.  On this carburetor set, there are small (about 1/4"x1/4") spring loaded flaps that default into the open position. When the assembly was off, i noticed that the first carburetor's flap was closed, due to a broken spring.  I know that this is most likely what my non-firing cylinder problem is due to.  however, I do not know where i can locate a new spring.  This spring is rather small (1/4"-1/2" in length and 1/16"-1/8" in diameter).  All rebuild kits that I've researched do not list/show this spring.  What can I do?  What is the function of this flap?  Can I position this flap in the open position?  Can I make a spring, if so is it important to retain the original spring rate?  Do you know of places that would have such a spring?  Any insite to this would be great!

Answer
Ok, first of all I'm almost certain u can find this little turd of a spring at www.carbkitscapital.com.  Second, I'm not downing your procedure but I'm a bit curious as to y u took off the carbs due 2 a firing issue.  As for the "flap" where is it located on the carb?
