Answer
Ok my friend u r experiencing what called a "lean" condition.  This means the engine is getting more air than gas.  Lean conditions cause exhaust bluing, exhaust backfire/popping, sporadic running and stalling.  Your carb(s) need a thorough cleaning for starters and will most likely b your main issue.  Tell me this:  Was it stored with fuel in the tank and was the petcock on or off?  Good luck and let me know!
