Motorcycle Repair: 1990 honda vtz (jap import), honda vtz250, ebay

Question
i have a honda vtz250 which i understand is an extremly rare bike. the trouble is that im not getting a spark out of the end of both sparkplugs. I have just bought two coils on ebay(mp06) but ive a feeling it is the cdi unit, now, i went and found a japsite to view a cdi unit to get model number which i did (VTz250 cdi KC3355) but to my dismay it was two boxes with 1 red and 1 white connector, the trouble is that the cdi unit from my bike is completely different. Also when i put a tester on the end of the spark plug and touch the frame of the bike i get a reading, please help me i am baffled. do you know where i can source a cdi unit?, the one i pulled out of my Vtz is an OKI lot.no.7321 and it is one small box, very odd.I appreciate any help you can give me , i know this post may be impossible to reply too , but seeing as im in such a pickle any advise is great.    mny thx

Answer
Kraig, the only comparible model sold in the US was the 88-90 VTR250, so check to see whatever CDI versions they offered here, assuming you are writing from the US. That is the only source of info I have for a similar machine. I know that Honda made changes through the years on all their bikes and the CDI systems often were modified with either a single control unit or two spark modules. If you can find a whole VTR250 ignition/harness, I would think that it would function on your machine, as the engines should be very similar.
Gray market machines like this can be a real headache when things go wrong. Try also www.davidsilverspares.com and www.cmsnl.com as possible sources.
