Motorcycle Repair: engine cutting out when clutch is engaged, kawasaki gpz 750, gagues

Question
I just bought a 1983 Kawasaki GPZ 750 from a garage sale it was in bad condition.  I have gotten everything fixed except there is a Red Warning light that is flashing and on the tank the all the gagues are Flashing also.  The bike starts up fine but when i put it in gear and start to let the clutch out it immieadately dies.  I reved it up to 8000 rpm and dumped the clutch and the back tire engages for less than 1 second then dies.  What could be the problem?  I know there is a kick stand warning switch i have looked at it and it appears ok but I have not tested it.

Thanks  Mike

Answer
your correct about the stand switch its a safety device for that reason , it sound to me one of the wire is either groundin out or touch another somewhere , the switch is an open and closed circuit you mat crank the bike but when you try to take off it is meant to kill because of so many accidents happenning to rider with the kick stand down projecting the rider off the bike . sounds like the stand switch.

                       good luck and keep riding
