Motorcycle Repair: Charging system Yamaha XS 850, yamaha xs 850, yamaha triples

Question
I have a 1982 Yamaha XS 850 triple. The bike will start and will run as long as you want it to. But once you shut it off it won't start again without charging the battery. I replaced the stator. I was told that it could be a short in the fuse block. Is there any other possibility?

Answer
Hi Adam,

The source of the problem may be many. It could be simple a loose battery terminal connection. Someone should perform electrical diagnosis to verify the cause and then repair or replace the defective part(s).

Visit Electro Sport's website and check out their charging system "Fault Finding Chart." This chart will help you test the charging system components.

Get a copy of the service manual and perform troubleshooting procedures.
