Motorcycle Repair: Exhaust, air fuel ratio, air fuel mixture

Question -
I recently bought a 2006 Springer classic and I want to replace the slip ons with something that I do not need to concern myself with the fuel injection settings.  Is this possible.  I really like the Samson fishtail look but feel at least some "baffle" is appropriate but I want a great sound.  Can you help me on choice and options?  Thank you.

Answer -
Exhausts are an opinion thing. Use what you like and what you like in sound. Check some other bikes and see what they are running and if you like the sound. Then you can find out what they are running.
If you make changes like above you need to reset the EMC to get the proper air/fuel ratio

Thank you Mike for your input.  I would like to ask a follow-up question:

What am I risking if the air/fuel mixture is not precise?  I hear the back pressure will not be majorly effected if I only change the slip ons due to the stock exhaust configuration which is a split and not true duels. Is back pressure maintained on the stock exhaust system if I switch to straight, open 30" fishtails by Samson?

Answer
The more open the exhaust the less back pressure. When you go with drag pipes you lose horsepower int he midrange. Drag pipes are made for high RPMs. When you open the exhaust you are flowing more gases and will cause a lean condition. Your bike came from the factory a little lean to pass EPA standards, so now you are making it leaner. Leaner you run the less performance you get, pluss the bike runs hotter.
Good luck and happy riding
