Motorcycle Repair: Yamaha YZF 600 only runs on battery, regulator rectifier, wire insulation

Question
hello and thank you for any help you can give me.I have a 1999 yamaha yzf 600 and recently I had an electrical fire under my seat.I fixed that problom but now the bike only seems to run on the battery. I get about 45mins and then it starts to slowly lose power the lights start to dim then the digital display blacks out and the bike dyes. If I charge the battery every things back to normal for 45min. or so could it be a bad battery or relay. I was also told sence the battery is a gel pack its not good to charge it to much.. If so Ive charged mine about 10 times in the last 2 weeks...Please help with any advice thank you..

Answer
Hi Chris,

The charging system is not recharging the battery.

This may be the result of defective charging system component; alternator/regulator-rectifier, defective wiring, loose or disconnected electrical connector, or other problem.

I would need to examine the MC to accurately diagnose the problem.

Look for obvious evidence of damaged wiring, etc... All burned wiring, electrical connectors, and wire insulation msut be replaced. Conductors that have been exposed to fire temperatures will produce high resistance.

Perform an output test on the charging system. If you're not sure about how to perform this work, have a local tech do it for you.
