Motorcycle Repair: YZF 750 1994, throttle position sensor, air fuel mixture

Question
I have a 1994 YZF 750. When I am riding the bike on the highway in 6th gear at 4000 rpm, and I roll the throttle to accelerate, it begins to sputter and will not increase speed at all. Above 4700 rpm it runs great. I have to drop 2 gears to get in an rpm range that will allow me accelerate around the loss of power. The bike is stock overall.  It has a Hindle exhaust on it. New plugs, fuel filter, ect. What are the reasons why this is happening ? Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi Sean,

The reasons for the performance problems may vary.

There's not enough information in the narrative description to accurately diagnose the cause.

The problem may be a result of one or more of the following: a defective throttle position sensor, varnished carbs, fuel contamination, gearing ratio, in correct air-fuel mixture (jetting), ignition problem, or other.

I suspect the problem lies within the jetting. Reading the spark plugs helps to determine if the jetting is correct. Learn about reading plugs at NGK's website: www.ngk.com Click "Plug 4-1-1" and then "Plug Problems" to learn more.
