Things that may affect engine speed (idle) includes:

-idle adjustment
-improper carburetor or TB synchronization
-defective throttle position sensor
-defective ignition system
-defective charging system
-throttle cable adjustment
-throttle cable routing
-varnished carburetors
-defective fuel system
-fuel contamination
-pinched or collapsed fuel or vacuum hose
-vacuum leak
-over heated or over cooled engine
-other....
