Motorcycle Repair: Motor seized, piston crowns, wood dowel

Question
I bought a 1978 Honda 750  K. It has been sitting on a back porch for about 4 years. How is the best way to get the rings loose.I have tried penetrating oil to no avail. This bike has 10,000 miles on it and the owner is a retired gentlemen who has taken well care of it until he got sick and was not able to even go start it up.

Answer
Hi Randy,

Use penetrating oil, WD40, Liquid Wrench, Blaster, or other. Soak the piston crowns and allow to soak.

Gently tap on piston crowns with a wood dowel or other similar/suitable object.

Try and rotate the crankshaft.

You can try applying heat to the exterior cylinder surfaces to cause cylinder liners to expand a bit. Keep in mind that penetrating oils may be flamable.

You can farm the work out to a local shop or machinist.
