Motorcycle Repair: not fireing, theft attempt, wireing harness

How can i trace down a no power to the coil issue on a 2000 yamaha big bear 400 4x4? Someone tried to hot wire it at the switch but didnt cut the wireing harness, now it wont fire.

Hi Scott,

Trace the wiring in the ignition circuit. Look for evidence of defects. Repair or replace accordingly.

Check ignition system components per service manual procedures.

I'm not clear on how the switch is affected by the theft attempt, but consider replacing the ignition switch. I would need to see the damages.
