Motorcycle Repair: primary chain tightning, sportster 883, head bolt

Question
what is the procedure to tighten the primary chain on a 2000 sportster 883.  i pulled the top chain cover where you fill the fluid and noticed that the chain has about 3/4 inch of slack in it. hopefully i wont have to pull the whole primary cover off to do this.

look under the priamry. You will see a large nut with a allen head bolt through it. That is the adjuster. Loosen the locknut and turn the allen head bolt to tighten. You should have about 1/2 inch play in the chain when the bike is cold
