Motorcycle Repair: 2006 harley dyna super glide slip on mufflers, harley dyna, stock pipes

Question
I purchased a new 2006 dyna super glide 1 month ago, left everything stock on it when purchased, had problems with the fuel pump right off the bat, would start then shut down after about 2 seconds, supposedly fixed, running like crap now(stalling, caughing, sputtering)the dealer suggested to add some race application to it, dyno it for 5 hours and to replace air filter and to replace the stock pipes on it, they quoted me aobut $1600,-wow on a new bike-would really just like to change out the stock pipes but am wondering what else really needs to be done and if what they are telling me needs to be done is all really necessary, would just like to get away from that honda sounding harley. Thanks for any advice on this.

Answer
First thing I would do is go to another dealer!
They should be able to get your bike running correctly before changing anything.
As to the changes. Changing the mufflers and air intake is somthing you can do yourself. Not really that tough. The only problem is you need to have the EMC reset for the changes. 1600.00 seems realy high to me. I just did the same thing to a bike and the charge was around 800.00.
Check around for a independent shop that can do the same thing. They are usually alot less in labor
Good luck and happy riding
