Motorcycle Repair: Honda startup problem, honda shadow sabre, bill silver

Question
Hi Bill: my bike is a 2000 Honda Shadow Sabre vt1100, I hope you can help me. I stored my bike for one year, now it does not run no more. I clean the carb and make sure all the jets are clean, but still not working. Briefly speaking,
the fuel pump is good, there is gas in the carb float bowl. spark plugs are good, but there is no gas get in to the cylinder (I checked this by checking the spark plug tips, the tips are dry).
I don't know what other thing I need to check now, could it still be the carb problem?

Thank you very much

Answer
Jeff, if you took the carbs all apart, cleaned all the jets and assembled it back together again, that should be okay. Did you check the air cut diaphragms on the carb bodies for any holes/tears? Carb choke cables/plungers all okay and adjusted properly?

Did you drain out ALL the fuel from the tank? Old fuel will not burn after a year of sitting, even when you put stabilizer in it.

Double check for strong spark at the plugs. Replace them if in doubt. KILL switches can get corroded contacts from sitting.

Try some starting fluid down the air cleaner case, with the element removed. That will tell you if the issue is fuel or spark. If it starts, then fuel feed is the problem.

Check Sabre/Shadow websites on the Net..
