Motorcycle Repair: valve seats, honda z50, metal material

Question
'74 honda z50 needs new valves, can i just lap in the new valves into old head or would i absolutely have to have the seats cut then lap in?
been told the seats on this particular head cannot
be cut due to metal material of seats. is it possible to just lap in valves into used head?

Answer
Gary,

It's difficult to say what condition a 32 year old head would be in.  But, IN GENERAL, if you are not looking for optimum performance, and i'd bet the wear is not all that bad, yes, you can go ahead and put new valves in it.

However, why does it need new valves... were they broken? if so, make sure they didn't do damage when they broke.  It may be wise to ask your dealer which heads would also fit on that motor and buy a new one, they don't change those motors much - (www.hondaminitrail.com) probably had them, I bet you can find a new one for surprisingly cheap - all depends on how much you want to put in to the bike.

Good Luck!
