Motorcycle Repair: suzuki katana sprocket, suzuki katana, sprokets

Question
hi i am wondering if i replace the rear sprocket with 3 fewer teeth should i replace the front one with one fewer, i viewed past answers and get the impression that there is a 3-1 ratio when it comes to teeth, i am really not sure if this is accurate if you could please give me some guidence i would appreciate it, my overall objective is to reduce highway rpm's but not give up too much on acceleration
thanks kevin

Answer
If u go 3 teeth u will definatly notice less accel.  I would suggest looking on www.denniskirk.com to see what sprokets r available and in what ratios.  U can change the rear only, but 3 teeth will b a large decrease in accel.  Is the current sprocket OEM?  If so, then leave it.  Your bike likes high rpms, I don't know what size it is or the year or the rpms that r bothering u, but if it's stock then u r not hurting the machine as they r a high winding type of bike.
