Motorcycle Repair: Yamaha Banshee, vent hoses, check fuel

Question
Hi. I was riding my 1998 Yamaha Banshee and all of a sudden it started to decelerate and i couldn't give it any gas. It then slowed to a stop and quit. At first I thought I had siezed it up but i put it in the garage and it still rolls over and has good compression. However it will not spark. I was wondering if maybe you could tell me what is wrong with it.

Answer
Hi Darrek,

I need to inspect the Banshee and perform a few tests to accurately diagnose the problem(s).

Things you can do easily are:

Check wiring and connectors for loose or disconnected connectors and defects.

Check spark plug lead and spark plug.

Check battery cable connections for loose connections.

Check fuel and vent hoses for evidence of pinching or collapsing.

Check fuel level.

Other tests can be done with the aid of the service manual and test meter. Otherwise, consider having a local tech inspect the problem for you.
