Motorcycle Repair: Honda Scrambler 250 pricing, motorcycle mechanic, honda 250

Question
Sir,
I have recently obtained an old Honda Scrambler 250. It was sitting in my neighbor's barn for about 15 years. His grandson worked on it a few years ago, and it is in good condition. I have talked with a motorcycle mechanic and he said that it would not take much to get it running. I am thinking of selling it, and am not sure what to ask for it. What do you recommend?

   Thank you!

Answer
Kevin, the Honda 250 Scramblers are real classic machines and are getting some good sales figures now, especially when they are complete and original condition, either to use, as-is, or to restore. Honda built about 80,000 Scramblers, but most were CL77 305 machines. If the bike has the correct front fender and stays, chain guard, seat, alloy fenders and a good speedometer and fuel tank, the bike is probably a $1500 piece, non-running, and if made to run and run well, you can add as much as another $1,000 to it again. It all depends on the mileage, the correctness, and condition of the machine. Send photos through my website, if you want, so I can get a better idea of what you have there. Location is a factor, due to shipping costs that can run up to $1,000 in some cases, for cross-country trips.
