Motorcycle Repair: Harley Davidson Oil Cooler, oil dipstick, heritage softail

Question
I have a 2006 Heritage Softail Classic (FLSTCI) and I live in Houston, Texas which at this time of the year we have tempertures of 95 to 105 and I ride my bike to and from work and have several lights, so it is a lot of times stop and go driving. I have been thinking about having an oil cooler installed on my bike, but some people at my job tell me that I do not need it and some to tell me that it is a good idea, none of which are experts, so would you tell me your idea of having an oil cooler installed on my bike.

Answer
I am from Ohio and in this state i really dont recommend a oil cooler. Since youa re from texas (probably alot of 100 degree day) you might need one.
before buying one however, get a oil dipstick with a temp gage on it. watch the temp durning your stoping a going. If you bike is getting to hot while riding (over 240) then you should consider getting one
Good luck and happy riding
Mike
