Motorcycle Repair: starter reduction gear?, starter clutch, crank case

Question
I have an '82 650 nighthawk I just bought as a project the bike did start when I bought it but now when I removed the starter the redution gear moves freely and there's no start .
is it the starter clutch or ? and
Do i have to disassemble the hole motor to get to it ?
and can i put a kickstart kit on here and does it require dissassembling the whole motor as well?
thanks

Answer
I would say u have a bad starter, but that is solely based on your description. If u could b more clear I may b able 2 help.  All starter functions should b accessible through the crank case and side cover, there is no need for total disassembly.  As 4 the kick starter, I would strongly suggest letting the idea go for 1 reason.  If u found a way 2 do it, the chances of it working out would b nill.  These aps r usually 4 Harley-Davidson.  Have a good day!
